Got Breaks?

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Insane Corkscrew, AKA- "1990"

From: BBoY ZeDD:

This move is MAD hard. I can't do it, but I'm gonna post this move as a challenge to other bboyz... You gotta be able to do at least one rotation of a headspin BOTH ways..Just start off and do one rotation of a headspin, put your hands down and stop your momentum. Then kick your legz really hard and do a rotation the OTHER way. So what you should be doin is spinning one way, stopping, then spinning the other way, and doin that over and over. Dat's about as good a description as I can give yall, so just try it. But be real careful, you could break your neck if you do it wrong. Peace out! ·.¸¸.´Z`.¸¸.-BBoY ZeDD-.¸¸.´Z`.¸¸.· © 2001 Breakdance.com. All Rights Reserved.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: "2000"

First of all before you can do this you must be able to do a 1990. You have to know which hand you wanna spin on usually the stronger one. Ok now before actually trying this move first practice by doing a regular handstand and lift up the hand that you don't spin on and place it over your spinning hand palm over palm, and try to balance like that for a few seconds, the longer you can stay up the better and practice alot. Now u are ready to begin first start out by going into your 90 and once you are in the air you lift up your nonspinning hand and u start to spin place your free palm on top of your spinning hand and try to pull of some spins... this move is much easier than a 1990 but takes a week or two to get one solid rotation down so it shouldn't be too much... just keep trying.

Tips You don't spin on your fingers you spin on the bottom of your palm You might wanna use a bandana or something under your hand when trying this for the first time when you start to get better take it off.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: The Jackhammer

Here's a lil explanation to ya'll on how to do jackhammers. I think this is also a variation of a handglide...but harder.... In this move you hop on you're hand in da handglide position so the hand the supports you're whole weight actually comes off da ground. So you jump around in circles.

[1] First try the spinning motion. Get in da handglide position and by using only you're left hand (which is in yo stomach) try to turn a lil' bit. Sort of turn you're hand from you're wrist so you are clearly turning. Do this back & forth. After that you should try hoppin'.

[2] So once again you are in da handglide position. Now by using you're legs and you're free hand for help try to jumping in this position. this move is called The Cricket.

[3] Once you've got that down cold then try jackhammers. Now you put you're free hand behind you're back or something. You don't use it for any kind off help. So you're one hand does everything; hopping, balancing and turning. You're legs shouldn't touch da ground at all.

It's possible to f*ck up you're knees while doin' diz one 'coz they are GOING to hit the ground when you practice this.

Tips

This move is NOT easy...And NOT for beginners. You can hurt you wrist pretty seriously if you can't hold da handglide position.

You should pretty much master the position!! Keep practicing & Keep it real!!!

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Kipup

This is when you are lying on your back, then you KICK UP and you land back on your feet. Start position:

Legs as close to your face as possible, arms OVER your shoulders touching the ground (very hard to explain if you haven't seen a person do one, watch Jackie Chan). Now throw your legs HIGH as they can go, This should lift your hips as well. Now PUSH HARD with your arms, lifting your upper body.

Tips TAKES PRACTICE!! took my about 4 months to get kip ups down. Later you can use the back of your head instead of hands. Then no hands at all. If you wanna add style, while kicking your legs, make it look like your riding a bicycle with your legs. Or one legged kip ups. Then kip up-suicide-kip up-suicide.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: 3 Step

From B-boy Aaron What's up new breakers? This move is pretty easy to learn.......... SO HERE WE GO! [1] First, you get into a crab position (This is where your face is facing the ceiling) [2] Then, you move your left foot forwards. [3] Put your left hand by your right and in a spilt second, pull your left foot back and move your right foot up. [4] Your hands should carry some of your weight since you are leaning to your right. [5] (This is the hard part)You sweep your right foot to your left (like you are doing a helicopter) but let right foot carry, don't let it go through. You should end up moving 180 degrees to your left and left foot back at the same position. Keep practicing!

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: lkick

This move originated in Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts) in which it is known as Au Batido (`ow bachito). It's really not easy but when mastered you're a damn good breaker.

1. Stand with your hand above your head. 2. Swing it down to the ground (at that time do a one handed hand stand.) 3. Bring your legs up to a 90 degree angle. 4. Stay up in that position for a few seconds (if you look at your legs sideways they look like an L.)

Keep practicing the L-Kick or you'll hurt yourself if you haven't practiced.

Name of Move: 6 Step

By - B-boy Decibel

This is the basis of B-boyin. It's the thing people do when they first hit the floor. It looks like yer sitting there with your legs flying around you.

Like the name says, it has six steps.

These instructions are for doing the move counter-clockwise, as are most moves.

To start, get in the position like you would to do a push up, but with your feet spread about 2 or so feet apart.

Step 1: Lift your right hand, and move your left where your hand used to be. Step 2: Move your right leg forward so your knees are close, but keep your left leg where it is. Step 3: Pull your left leg in as your right leg stays where it is. Step 4: Swing your right leg in a WIDE arc kinda like how peeps do that coffee grinder thing Switch hands, so now you're right hand is down, left hand up. Keep your right leg swinging around. Step 5: Your right leg swings around and wraps around your left. You have your face down and both hands on the floor. Extend your left leg first, then your right leg. This is important to making it look right. Step 6: Now you're in the starting position, continue with step 1

That's how the 6-step is done. You'll see it often referred to in other moves such as mini flare, swipes, and other stuff.

You will start most moves from the 6-step. All the power moves that you do on the ground (except flares) can only be started from 6-step and look good.

Some Moves from 6-step:

Mini Flares/Baby Flares-This is kind of a half flare. All you do is swing both feet up in front of you like a flare, on step 2. Lots of people dont know how this ends up, but its simple. Both feet go back around you and you end up in step 4/5. Windmills can be put in on step 2

Go to Crickets/Jackhammers/other similar moves from step 5.

Most other moves, you can figure out where it can fit just cuz it feels comfortable that way. Good luck and practice a lot

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Master Swipe

This is how to do the true Master Swipe.

Okay you should be able to do the swipe, one-legged swipe, the flight swipe and the air-swipe.

Recap

Swipe-on all fours in crab position. Twist to the side and land in same position. Legs go after and faster than your arms. One-legged-swipe with one leg in the air. If you turn to the left, your left leg should be up. Flight swipe-swipe with only one hand, if going to the left use your right. Air-swipe-Start standing then jump back and swipe. Finish standing or in swipe pos.

Okay, now for the Master Swipe. Start standing up. I'm gonna explain going to the left. Lean as far back as possible. Now lift your left leg and bring your knee to the middle of your ++RiB++cAgE++. Your shin should be parallel to the floor. Now you should be able to lean farther. Try to lean so far that your whole body gets parallel. You shouldn't be able to, unless your a weird freak. Now put both arms on your right side. Now whip them back to the left and at the same time sink lower to the floor so that your left hand can touch. But your legs should still be in the same position. As your right hand goes down to the ground your legs should start to swing also. You have to jump as high as possible or else your going to hurt your feet very badly. Now both of your hands are touching the ground and your legs and body are swinging around. Go with the momentum and bring your left hand off at the same speed and time as your legs. This should come naturally. Your right foot should hit the ground and then your left arm should swing around in a circular motion and touch the ground. These are very sweet power moves.

Tips on Learning Master Swipes. Try it from the normal swipe position first. Jump really high and kick your left leg into the air then swipe around it. It is a lot easier. Try working on your balance and how you lower your hands to the floor.

Variations in getting into them. I've seen this a lot, walk into the circle then kick your leg and Master Swipe. Of course I've seen someone swipe, one-legged swipe and air swipe to them. I've seen someone crab to them. I've seen someone flare to them. I've seen someone windmill to them. I've seen someone worm to them. And I've seen someone headspin to them.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Aerial Cartwheel

From Bliss:

An aerial is just a cartwheel done with no hands so you should learn how to do a very smooth and fast cartwheel before attempting an aerial. many people claim that you should learn the one handed cartwheel also, but the aerial and the one handed cartwheel are totally different.

1) you have to learn how to do a cartwheel: first, lift your left leg and raise your arms up in a ready position. Bend downwards and place your left foot on the ground. Now bend down more and place your left palm down in front of your left foot. Now raise your right leg which should be in back of you into the air. After that put your right palm down in a line with your left palm and left foot and finally raise your left leg and bring it above you. As your left leg goes up, your right leg should be landed or about to land. The farther apart your legs are the better it will look. While landing your left leg, bring your arms up also. Your final position should face opposite the direction to as you started.

2) Keep practicing your cartwheel until it is very smooth and you can land it very lightly. After a while if you do it extremely fast you should feel a popping up movement when u land. Always try to compact your cartwheel also. In order to do an aerial, your cartwheel has to be very compact and can't be very wide. As you master your cartwheel, try kicking inwards at the end when you bring your legs up. When you feel a popping movement, you can try the aerial.

3) The aerial is jus a cartwheel except your hands aren't supporting you, momentum is. When you first try you should get a running start, but after a while u can do standing aerials which just look so beautiful. After a short run jump onto the floor, left leg outward and with your left leg, jump straight upwards while bending sideways and lifting your right leg. You should be in midair now and bring the left leg over also. You should try to land lightly and inward, not outwards. The two most important secrets of doing an aerial is remembering to keep it compact, not wide and that the jump is upwards not forward. Coo Coo dats it g'lucks.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Air track Animation from Run DMC vs Jason Nevins - "It's Like That" video.

Thanks to Sam for the clip.

All right here are the instructions for a move called the airtrack (which in my opinion is one of the hardest and most spectacular moves in breakdancing!)

To perform the airtrack it's best that you can perform multiple flares and windmills with ease...the reason you need to be able to do this is because an airtrack is basically a windmill in midair and you will need the flare to perform before the airtrack to gain momentum...(its almost impossible to do the airtrack by itself...most of the time you will want to perform a flare~airtrack combo)

This is for counter clockwise flares and airtracks.

To start off by doing half of a flare...when you do this you should be in the back part of the flare with you hands on the ground in front of you and your legs spread apart behind you...now kick your right leg up and to your left behind you in a circular motion...at the same time look to your right (very important!)...right after you look to your right kick your left foot under your right foot (like doing a windmill except your body is off the ground)...when you twist too far to keep your hands on the ground swing your right hand around behind you...as soon as you lift your right hand give a very hard kick with your right leg going up and left and your left leg going under it (just like before...picture the motion for a windmill)...a millisecond after you let go of the ground with your right hand let go with your left hand (you have to make sure that it is a millisecond after you let go with your right hand...if you let go with both hands at once you will just fall to the ground)...when you lift your left hand you should now be in the air with your back facing the ground and your legs open like you were doing a windmill...as soon as you see the ground (that's why I told you it was important to look to your right...so you can see the ground when you come back over) put your right hand down...then put your left hand down...you should now be in the position that you started the move in...from here you can go into windmills or another flare...

Tips

The most important thing when you do this move is to make sure that you stay about 45 degrees to the ground...if you go too high up you will land on your head instead of hand and if you go too low you will land on your back or your stomach...another tip is to make sure that you keep you legs open...if you close your legs you will spin more than you want to and land on your back...

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Nike , AKA K-Kick

1. First, stand up position with your legz shoulder length spread apart.

2. From this position draw a circle with your whole arm, and while you are doing this, bring your right foot beside your left foot.

3. Right after you draw a circle, bring your right hand where your right foot used to be and jump with your left foot to the side. remember to put your hand on the ground first and than kick your legz up. left leg first and than the right one.

4. So now you should be holding all your weight on your right hand with your legz on the air, spread apart very widely. You should bend your waist a bit too. Your right leg should be bent so that your legz will look like a Nike sign.

Tip:If you don't get this move, just think of Nike sign and try to make you legz look like that sigh following these description. and you should be very flexible to do this move.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Air track

This move is original (for me anyway) it looks cool in a big circle. It involves 2 people X & Y.

1) X & Y stand facing each other (over 5ft apart).

2) X bends over bending his knees slightly and can rest his elbows on his knees (head must be down)

3) Y runs at X and puts his hands on his shoulders and flips himself onto X's back and does a tumble while on his back and lands on his feet usually in a crouched position

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Backflip

Hey All,

I assumed that you could do back handspring (if you don't know how to do it, go to http://hiutang.cjb.net for more info!).

In order to do back flip you need a lot of momentum! The GIF animated showed above is harder than a backtuck, so the first thing you need to learn right now is B A C K T U C K!

Standing up, straight your body and your hands up in the air (this is how you get momentum if your hands in the front of your face and do backflip you will fall down on your knee!)

Swinging up your hands down to your back , and imagine you about to sit on a CHAIR and then SWING up your hands up in the air, try to imagine hit your knees UP to your face.

In order to land on your feet you have to tuck your knees to your chest, that's how you get high , cuz you ball your body and you'll landing down on your feet.

That's it anybody need any help, I'll help ya, keep breakDANCING 4EVER!.

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Back hand spring From B-boy HiuTang:

Before attempting to do backhand spring you need to do a backbridge to help you improve flexibility to your shoulder.

Now get ready for start:

Straight your body in horizontal your hands up in the air, swing your hands down really fast, while swinging your hand and you about to bend down try to imagine that you about to sit on the chair then legs push down really hard, launch up your hands and EXTEND OUT YOUR SHOULDERS through the rest of back handspring!, that's how you push your hands on the ground and push yourself over.

How do I learn backflip? Check out Chimp's Capoeira website, they will teach you how 5 or 7 ways to do back handspring

Note from Brink:

Ok, in the animation the backhandspring is done wrong and it proably hurts your wrists a whole lot doing it that away.

First, the sit, in the animation he kinda sat foward, you need to sit back as if your going to fall on your butt, next the swing, you swing behind you then over your head extended, then keep then EXTENDED next the jump, While falling or sitting, extend your legs don't try to swing them over your head or it will look sloppy like HuiTang's, it creates more momentem keeping your legs straight after you jump, next the push when your hands hit the ground, keep your hands EXTENTED and push off the ground with your shoulders giving you a rebound to do a series of BHS's.

-Brink

Hip-hop Dance (Breakdance Moves)

Name of Move: Pompo Note from Brink:
It goes like this...

[1] Sit on the floor wit you're palms and feet on the floor wit you're butt in the air so that only you're feet and palms touch the ground.

[2] Then crouch you're right leg so it's in a 90 degree angle. Then lean it to you're left so that the left (inner) side of you're right foot touches the floor. It should NOT be FLAT on the floor....just a little bit leaning towards it.

[3] Then you begin to move.....Lift you're RIGHT arm up and put you're weight on you're LEFT foot as you lift you're RIGHT leg up and a little bit to the left.

[4] Then straighten you're RIGHT leg and bend you're left leg as you put you're weight on you're RIGHT leg and lift you're left hand......And at the same time you lift up you're left (bent) leg.....So it's the same thing as in step three except you do it the other way around....

So you just need to repeat that same move a couple of times.... This move is VERY easy...You'll probably master it in about two weeks....It look VERY TIGHT when you do it fast and smooth...you can also link a six step to this move etc....

Peace Out!!
